I think it's a good move. Habs needed a solid back up so they don't overplay price. We all saw what healthy and rested price can do, so basically for only a 3rd pick, they got a solid 1b goalie.

Habs aren't suffering from cap either, so they can afford to do this. They're essentially paying 1.4m more for him, because Mason and kinkaid comes off the books ( around 3mil). Best part is that Allen only has a year left, so habs aren't gonna be stuck with him if he doesn't work out.

Looking at the team, the only major signing for next season is domi, but he's rfa and rumored to want out. So habs still got ton of cap to work with if they wanna go through a trade or FA route.
