true

and im pretty sure pronger was making like 500k and already hired by the nhl and rich as balls by this point its not like he needed the $$
pretty sure flyers couldnt buy him out because he was perma LTIR maybe that why they couldnt terminate it?
seems like it would have been beneficial specially since he was WORKING FOR THE NHL while on ltir for the flyers

feel like this would be done more often there is lots of situations where a team/player want to get away from each other and the contract is a barrier im sure at least some would be willing to dump it to go somewhere else
if he had 1 year left i can see this cause of the seasons unsurity but 2 years its like what

Pronger was injured 2011/12. Which is like 2nd year into his contract with flyers. If he wanted to terminate the contract and walk away from 26+ mil then i don't see why Flyers wouldn't agree to that lol

Also, in Byfugly's case I think it's a bit unique because he won a cup, and made enough dough in his career. On top of that, he lost interest playing hockey, and he would rather spend time with his family and kids instead of traveling quite often for games, keeping in enough shape to play, his injuries also probably demotivated him etc.
I think some peg fans are relived his contract is terminated because i remember when he signed that 5yr contract, majority said he will be sick for the first 3 years but be an anchor in the last 2 from age/injury/unfit shape etc. So now they got out ezpz.
I mean, he's pretty dope for being an 8th rounder pick.

When you're late in your career you're way more liable to incurring injuries that can impact you for the rest of your life. It's not just about the money or being able to play at a pro level. Who wants to stick around too long and end up like Pronger or Savard?

I don't think anybody is going to go after him. Maybe he will get a 1 year deal somewhere if he wants to play.

He had a habit of showing up overweight to camp. Now he has been off for an extended period of time and his passion for the game is probably gone.

You cant expect an out of shape 35 year old to rebound, mentally and physically. Realistically I think his career is done. Even if someone takes a chance on him I don't think they will be impressed.

Really unique player who always brought lots of excitement to the game. He will be missed.

I think he will retire, 1yr prove it deal doesn't make sense to me. Prove what? He's like on the verge of retiring.. Should I finally pig out all the way and enjoy much food I want? Or still be fit enough to play for the year & and more..

Whichever Gm planning to get fired and wanna say fuck you to the org would have hell of a time.

35+yr old contract, lock him up so he can either be an anchor or on ltir lol

I can't see him sign though because he's the same guy that lost passion playing hockey and didn't show up to camp just to collect ez money. Maybe there's something more behind the scenes btwn him and the jets org, then maybe he will sign elsewhere to start fresh

I'm sure he is fine, but is he gonna get enough spark back to playing hockey in a new city and ask his fam to wait another x years?

I mean he did say good bye to 14 million dollars, and to a playoff team, In a city he supposedly loves.
