well their bottom pairing is a rotation of... Cernak, Schenn, Ruuta and Coburn. These are the kind of defensemen who get destroyed by good lines in the playoffs.

with the assets given up for Coleman surely they could've shored up their blueline, of course the GM knows better and believes he can manage with what he has but the price paid was on the level of players like Karlsson and Duchene. maybe I'll be eating crow later but eh, the way I see it Brisebois fucked up by trying to load for two seasons instead of one.

With andy greene going for a 2nd and coleman fetching a first im interested to see what yzerman can do with guys like Green and Athanasiou. Green has more offensive upside than Greene, and Coleman last year put up 22/14, AA scored 30/24 last year and is one of the fastest guys in the league. If he can find a trade partner for those guys the wings could be looking at a solid return.

In Coleman’s case it came down to cap hit

Thats true, AA is only making 3m and we can certainly retain $ to make it sweeter.

Steep price to pay for a 3rd liner.

At least they will be able to keep him for one year after this season.

After that they probably cant afford to fit him in the cap.

I understand his contract low cap hit is good but this seems like too much to give up.


Based on this the Canucks deal for J.T Miller is looking even better.
