Sure, he's not a super star, but he's almost a point-a-game player, with a +2 rating on a team with -30 +/-, and he is a big body.

I don't think people see the real value in trades where they didn't acquire Taylor Hall....


Red wings have brought up all of their Griffin defenseman to the full time roster now with the two year contract of Jensen.
With Smith going out, and their call ups on the real team, they will need a guy that they can call up throughout the year.
Fans won't see value here but it is realistic.
Mcllrath is 24. If he can make the team by the time he's 27, great. If he is just a call up as a capable defenseman to fill slots throughout the season, there is value there as well.

The conditional pick was a good condition for the wings. If FLA makes the playoffs, wings get nearly a 2nd round pick out of it.

If you think we got low value for Vanek with a pick and a prospect with a chance of a better pick- look at what Colorado got for iginla.

iginla is nothing compared to vanek tho

Vanek is worth more than iginla so he got more in return. But how much more? Answer can be seen in the trade and then you can decide if it seems proportional.

If iginla is worth what he went for, I think vanek got fair amount.

I think this can be seen with Vrbata in PHX as well. He didn't even get moved.

I am disappointed with the return we got from Vanek, but i think the hanzal trade fucked everything up and set expectations higher than they should have been. Before that trade i was hoping to get a 2nd for vanek didnt think anything more, then the hanzal trade went down and every went bat shit crazy saying vanek should bring equal or close value, which set expectations too high.

Sproul left Saturday’s game in Edmonton after spraining his knee while falling on his own. Sproul had to be helped off of the ice and there is no timetable for his return to the Red Wings’ lineup. Robbie Russo was recalled from Grand Rapids (AHL) to take his spot in the lineup on Tuesday.

Couldnt have asked for a better situation. Ovviously i would wish injury on any player, but this good for us. If he's out even just a couple games (but it sounds like it will be much more than that) from what i understand he will not play enough games to be eligible for the expansion draft. So we will not have to worry about protecting him or exposing him.
