Idk, i think they shouldve waited a little longer, tried to trade out some cap and locked him up long term. He's going to cost them a fuckin ton in 3 years. Couldve had him 9-10m now, but in three years he could be looking for 11-12+

They probably intend on winning a cup in that 3 year span and letting him go after those 3 years

Cap struggles
Bruins were in a similar situation 1-2 weeks ago
Tampa Boston and Toronto have very similar situations, especially coming up

Over an 8 year period in those 2 scenarios the totals come out too close to say there’s a difference. And this way Tampa gets to spend the money in years that are convenient to them. Also his next extension assuming 8 years puts him UFA at 32 so Tampa also gets his very best years without having to extend him for insane money at age 28/29 3 years before his best years are over.

More teams should utilize the 3 year bridge followed by 7/8 , that way you get the best years before overpay UFA. That or going to 5/6 year max deals would reduce the silly inflation in salaries from overpaid UFA’s about to fall off their career cliffs.

Its a wise.move by tampa. You dont overpay him.and you can trade him in his last contract year if you know hes going to cost too much and get a decent return for him

Bokk was 25th overall in 2018

Faulk also extends with Blues 7 x 6.5M

Quite the right side
