Shhhhhhhhhh let him go it will clear us a shit load of space and we can sign doughty

lol you actually think you would have a chance at getting doughty? first off you'd have to offer sheet him which would cost you 4 first rounders second you'd have to hope la doesn't match or you're shit out of luck. third if he was traded to ottawa say goodbye to 2 of karlsson cowen and runbad

in a fantasy world yes. But obv spezza won't be traded. it's be great toronto instantly becomes a better team and Ottawa takes 5 steps further into rebuilding mode. Both would make each team better

Man he;s getting old he's what 28 now?? We have young guys who will be ready to take on top 6 roll in  a year or two. let him walk free up room get even younger guys who can play more responsible defensively. Plus get Kadri and a few picks.

hes a ppg player who is the next leader of our team. without him, our centres are comprised of regin, zibby, smith, konopka, da costa. no way in fucking hell i let spezza walk for anything less than spezza + 2-3 players GUARANTEED compliment eachother and replace spezza effectively (i.e. insane faceoff percentage, ppg, amazing vision/passing, fast, etc)

see i've never been a big fan of spezza so i don't know if i'd want him on toronto although spezza dishing the puck to kessel would be nice
either way kessel seems to be able to score 30 goals no matter who his center is

he made heatley a better player. Even with one of the so called best in the game "Thorton" Healtey couldn't hit 50 goals but he did twice with spezza.

you don't know if you would want spezza playing for toronto? LOL

the only thing id be worried about as a leaf fan who wanted spezza would be trading an arm and a leg to get him

e: nvm leafs have proven they don't care about that kind of thing ie. the phil kessel trade

Quote
KANATA, Ontario -- With five defensemen on one-way contracts and Erik Karlsson locked into a National Hockey league spot despite his entry-level deal, the Ottawa Senators might have a big decision to make at the end of training camp.

And that decision -- whether to keep Jared Cowen or David Rundblad as their seventh blue liner -- could have a big impact on their American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton.

Cowen already spent time in Binghamton, helping the B-Sens to a Calder Cup title with a stellar 10-game playoff stint in the spring, and he hopes he has earned the right to move up.

The Senators are hoping Rundblad, who has played his entire career with Skelleftea in his native Sweden, is also willing to pay his dues in the AHL if it comes to that.

"Obviously, his hope is to make the (NHL) team out of camp," said Senators assistant general manager Tim Murray. "There's a competition here. Brian Lee was great last night. Jared Cowen's been very good in the two games here. We still have five games to go, and things can change. But if he (Rundblad) doesn't make the team out of camp, I personally would hope he would go to the American Hockey League.

"He does have an out to go back to Europe, but with what he accomplished back in Sweden last year (leading SEL defenseman with 50 points), I think it's time for him to move on. I think it's time for him to play in North America, whether that's here or starting the year in Binghamton."

Rundblad knows time in the AHL would help him make the necessary adjustments to smaller North American ice, but he's not sure that's the direction he will take.

"I don't know yet," Rundblad said when asked if he is willing to begin his season in the AHL. "I'm going to play these (preseason) games, and then we'll see what happens. I haven't made the decision yet."
