They saw the Oilers in a cap crunch and pounced. They could land a young, 2nd pair d-man (if he pans out) for a low cost.


Holloway is also a 1st round pick and stepped into the playoffs, providing an energy boost at times. If I recall he played every single game... So that shows he can be a contributing NHL regular.


The compensation for both of these players is not much considering their emerging roles and the fact they are former 1st round picks.

I think we are going to start to see more of this as teams get creative, bidding $1 under compensation tiers.

A team that has cap space can weaponize themselves and go after playoff teams who spent right up to the cap.

Insane. Personally I think he could have been a bit less selfish and leave 1-2mill on the table. In 3 or more years it may seem decent cap wise because cap will be increasing "significantly" but he'll be tuning 31?yo at that time and starting to slow down. I dunno man.

Now what. This means mcdavid going to stay? Now mcdavid going to take 8x16mill aav and in 2 years were paying 30mill for two players? Doing think that's a good idea.
