Im with meatstick. Id put it at 0.001% chance. The very slim chance im giving them is that there is a nationwide blackout, internet and phones are all down and Carolina has no way of contacting the league to tell them they are matching.

Hes on melnyk level of greedy. Two buyouts plus giving that 21m in a year without being able to trade aho for a year he might say no but if he says no, he just gave away his franchise center
Id say its arround 10% chances considering how much his agent has been talking and throwing shade at the canes

He's a smart business man, its already hard to own a franchise in a struggling market, he knows letting the face of his franchise walk could potentially sink the team and in the long run cost him WAY more than 8m. He'll match it regardless of whether he is greedy or not.

Good job on Bergevin to identify the Canes owner is short on liquid cash, but I think habs should have went a notch higher at 9.5m and give that extra first rounder and make the contract even more front loaded
