well it's not quite two men, Hyman and RNH are also big pieces and even Kane has been a big addition. but past these guys it gets sketch as fuck upfront. Ryan, McLoed, Yamamoto are OK to round it out but then guys like Kassian/Foegele/Poolparty/etc. are straight fuckin scrubs. Russell had more ice time than three forwards as 7th D-man... that's how bad the depth is even though only Turris and Yamamoto are on IR.

don't even need to talk about the D, with Klefbom out longterm there's not one pairing the team can roll out to slow down the best lines. when the team is keeping possession sure it's not too bad because they're actually good at moving the puck forward, but once they start getting pinned they're fucked.

But for real all trolling and shit talking aside; in this series we had arguably the two best players in the world go head to head.
One of them is criminally underpaid, the other took no discount and is paid the league maximum.
One of the teams is cobbled together with a severe lack of depth at F and on D with a 40 year old goalie who had one good year among a slew of mediocre seasons.
The other team was able to be methodically built with strong F and D depth along with two solid younger goalies.
Its no surprise which team is moving on to play for the cup and which one got run out of contention in 4 straight games. That's the difference in this series.
Imagine if McDavid took 1/2 or 3/4 the pay like MacK did. The oilers could have 3.125m to 6.25m cap space to get a real goalie and/or depth upfront or on D maybe they would be moving on.
Similar to the leafs, the oilers are built too heavily upfront with nothing/very little to fall back on. In fact its a shame the leafs cant play the oilers in the first round, they might actually be able to win a series.

I thought mcdavid did take a discount. I bet he's regretting it so much because he only took the discount so that the team can be built better, yet they wasted half a decade.

Even if mcdavid took 1/2 or 3/4 discount, it wouldn't have mattered cuz they'll just end up overpaying like nurse as an example. Rnh probably would've got paid with the cap space instead of taking discount etc. Basically I don't see mcdavid taking another discount ever again lolol
