Yzerman has already built a powerhouse that's won a Cup.

Until Sakic does the same there is no discussion here.

He built a solid foundation for sure, but I feel no one gives Julien BriseBois enough credit. He performed well in the AHL and assisted Yzerman, before succeeding him and took over the team. He was quick to adjust and improve his team, like after having an unreal season they got swept by the jackets. He quickly identified the problem and traded assets to bring in players that are tougher to play against such as goodrow and Coleman who were crucial in the playoffs. 2 years after Yzerman left the org, they won the cup. Now they're fucked because everybody is locked up with NTC and briesbos still needs to somehow find a way to sign his players

It took Yzerman 8 years to build the foundation and competitive team, and that's after inheriting Stammer and Hedman back 2 back just 2yrs before taking the job. Then 2 more years for his successor to win the cup after icing a very good team for few years.

Sakic is 7years in, and inherited Duchene, Barrie and Landy prior to taking the job. He also made the right choice picking macK over Seth Jones who was ranked 1. Banked on macK, sold Duchene high, traded barrie for their desperate need for 2c etc. Basically Sakic made more tough decisions than Yzerman imo, and so far it worked out. He also built a solid foundation, and he's still managing the team and isn't cap fucked like most top tier teams.

He has Mackinnon locked down at a 6.3m cap hit long term.

Draisatl has a 8.5m cap hit and is a comparable player. If Draisatl's contracts is seen as a great deal at 8.5m how much of a steal does htat make Mackinnons contract. Damn.

yeah it's insane, and macK also said he is willing to take another discount for his next contract to keep his team competitive and have a higher chance of winning the cup.

I hope they win it soon, i think if their goalies stay healthy and play at least average, they still got a great chance. Their depth up front and back is insane.

Also, Tampa became what they are today because of great drafting in the later rounds & steal players like point, kucherov etc.

We also get to see if Yzerman can do it again in Detroit or if Tampa's scouting staff should be given more credit for those later round picks.
