Ruslan Salei looks to be exiting before we even got to know him.  It was announced yesterday that the Wings will not be offering the Belarusian a contract, at least not until we see what is available on the free agent market.

I never really knew what to think about Salei.  I expected someone like Danny Markov: someone who worshiped Satan, was a former three star general in the Red Army and had committed multiple double homicides using only his evil stare and his left hand.

Salei, on the other hand, was a more consitant, less goofy looking version of Lilja.  Boring consistant hockey is what he played.  Was it great?  No.  Was it bad? No.  Was it anything?  Not really.  I honestly can't remember one thing he did all season.  Can you?

Now for a sixth defensemen, that's not a bad thing.  But the Wings need a little more tenacity in their game and Salei didn't bring it.  We already have a big guy who's a puss in the Big Rig.  We didn't need a crazy Russian who was neither crazy nor Russian.

yeah i didn't see us keeping him...he was average at best...and the wings don't do just ' average ' i wish him well...and thanks for opening more cap room! thanks for the info equable :D

So Jagr and Babbles talked, Holland admits there is interest and the media seems to love the idea of #68 in a Wings jersey. Hell, Jagr was 6th in scoring in the world championships, ahead of Spezza, Koivu, and Kovalchuk. But Jagr hasn't said anything to convince me that he isn't a Modano yet. In fact this quote from a Russian paper sours me even more:
What might play a role? Certainly, the quality of the contract. “Money is important. The more money you demand, the fewer clubs are interested.”

If money is your only desire Jaromir, Detroit is not your place.

But if not Jagr, who else? The Wings would certainly like another forward with scoring talent. Looking around, one guy seems to come to mind--NYR's Wojtek Wolski.

Right now the 25 year old is on a 3.8 million per year contract with the Rangers, however, there has been considerable talk about buying out his contract.

The kid has talent, there is no question. Yet playing for teams like Colorado, Phoenix and New York hasn't exactly cultivated that talent the way the Wings would have. And lately, he's been passed around the league more than a roadie at a rock concert which can't be doing great things for his confidence.

So yes, this is a long shot, but if the NYR do buy him out, they Wings should take a long, hard look. It's a great fit for both.

lmk guys, I think Wolski is great & would be awesome signing,
tl;dr Rangers might buy out Wolski contract & wings might be interested

Hum. Well, I wouldn't hate having him on our team, but I don't think the wings should be spending ~4m on a forward when we NEED to work on our defensive core.

yeah i would have to agree...i probably wouldn't be mad...but yeah the money he will require and the need to have more defense is kinda a big issue right now...and i'm hoping holland is taking that into consideration....as for the jagr thing...i doubt he will come here...and if he does ask for alot of money...i'm sure there are a few teams out there that will pay it...but as said...don't bother with the wings...
