hes a rental that seemingly wants to test FA no matter what team hes on if i was a blues fan id be happy i got a 1st+conditional 2nd
if you kept him as as your own rental and dont win the cup when he walks to FA it would hurt more
look at buffalo they did that with drury briere and i think a 3rd guy they all walked sabers went from a playoff team to lottery team
and they got shit in return if they woulda shipped them out for picks they could have atleast drafted to try and replace those guys

what you said here is true but if armstrong wouldve moved him as a 1yr rental in the offseason, the return wouldve been much more helpful.

thats where im pissed. everyone laughed at his asking price in the offseason cuz hed only do a sign and trade.

I dunno what you think he woulda gotten this summer dealing him as a rental player instead of a sign and trade player but it wouldnt have been much more... I don't get how you're even going to say burrows returned almost as much that's pretty ridiculous. And he returned the same as hanzal pretty much... You're being a typical hater who goes off when his team doesnt win every game and thinks he has all the information Armstrong did or because you coulda made a better trade in nhl 17... Simmer down and ease up on the unwarranted hate

i really dont feel like going over this again. the return wouldve been more, because more teams were interested and in the offseason, teams are more willing to move roster players.

a very late first in a weak draft is hardly worth anything in my opinion, the conditional pick is worth little too, so that leaves a prospect who people say has the ceiling of a 3rd line center.

so yea, im confident the return couldve been better in the offseason.

this wouldnt be as big of a deal if it wasnt for armstrong messing so much else up over the last few years. im sorry i cant just drink the kool aid and blindly see rainbows and sunshine.

I'd agree that if the intent was to move Shattenkirk whether or not St.Louis was in the playoff picture then it would have been smarter to do so before this season began. Maybe armstrong thought he could get a deal done with Shattenkirk and that's why he held onto him? Who knows.

What gets me is that while still very much in the playoff picture, all armstrong did was subtract from his team with the trading of shattenkirk. A guy like Streit was available for almost nothing and would have helped fill the hole created on D by Shattenkirk's departure. Instead, he does nothing around the deadline and that at least looks like he's essentially throwing in the towel for this season. If St. Louis doesn't make it in this year a lot of the blame should fall on Armstrong, could very well cost him his job.

but heres where im confused.

we knew we couldnt resign shattenkirk, so the only deal armstrong thought he could get done with shattenkirk is a sign and trade, and all signs point to shattenkirk never agreeing to even consider one.

being the general manager and president of hockey operations, id like to think that armstrong talks with shattenkirk enough to realize "ok he and his agent want to test free agency" or even "he and his agent want to test FA unless a deal is made with the NYR or BOSTON or whoever".

it seems the whole world knew shattenkirk wanted to to go to free agency (and i dont blame him), so one of 2 things happened here:

1. armstrong blindly held onto hope that shattenkirk would agree to a sign and trade to a team like tampa, edmonton, or whoever the 3rd team is, and was just too stupid to realize what everyone else knew, and thats that shattenkirk was either wanting to surely test FA or only go to one or two specific teams.

or

2. shattenkirk and his agent straight up lied to armstrong and said hed agree to a trade to those places and just wasted armstrongs time and effort, along with making things worse for the blues return for him.

i really doubt its #2 to be honest. it could be, but youd think something wouldve leaked by now on that.

it seems like armstrong thought he had more leverage than he really did, and that shattenkirk would just agree to go to wherever (edmonton/Tampa/DET/????) and sign an extension instead of smartly going to the open market and commanding more money to the highest bidder of his liking.

who knows? we have a cast of underperforming players and a GM who takes a step forward followed by 2 steps backward.

right now, we suck. the heart and the effort just isnt there.
