Good news is, Holland is probably done signing players. $9m left over for DDK and Mrazek but it means a little roster shuffle at the beginning where Larkin, Mantha, and AA will start in the minors to make a 23 man roster so we can put Franzen and Vitale on LTIR.
Bad news is, we signed Steve Ott, have stone hands Helm for 5 more years, got a 45-point 2C for six years who's doing nothing but getting worse, and we signed Steve Ott. Oh and did nothing on defense.

In Holland we trust my ass. As it stands this team misses playoffs and maybe gets a top-10 pick, possibly for the next few years since he's barricaded himself in with those long-term deals.

Everything this season hinges on the young kids stepping up and stepping up big.

Nielsen doesn't have the same injury issues but you'd think Holland would have learned from the Weiss fiasco.

Vanek is a good pick-up for any team, IMO. No real risk there.

Ott isn't very good but he can just be waived if need be.

As hilarious as it is because of the 24/7 quote, I think Ott may have been brought in to center the 4th line because he can win faceoffs and Glendening can't.

If I had to guess the lines right now are gonna be something to the effect of:

Abdelkader-Zetterberg-Larkin
Vanek-Nielsen-Nyquist
Tatar-Sheahan-Helm
Glendening-Ott-Miller
Jurco/Pulkk (if he signs)

Kronwall-Ericsson
DDK-Green
Smith-Marchenko
Ouellet

Mrazek
Howard

So we swap Datsyuk for Nielsen, Richards for Vanek, and lose Quincey while effectively ensuring AA and Mantha stay in Grand Rapids. If there's not a trade involving two of Jurco/Tatar/Nyquist/Pulkkinen then I just don't see how this team competes.

DDK elected Salary Arbitration

Its nothing personal. He'll still be a wing im sure. Might be better off.

Assuming it even goes to Arbitration, unless he gets awarded like $6.5m Holland won't walk. Filing is a good sign, means he wants to stay.

Can't be more than 4M, I would think.
