Lol he didnt want an inspector?

Is that even legal?

I'm in the process of buying a house, and no way in hell would I do it without it being inspected.

Also, the law states (at least in the US) that the selling cannot willfully hold back information about the house, IF they know it.

If they don't know about it, they can't be held responsible. That is what the inspections are for. Guy got nothing to sue about, unless he can somehow prove that your parents knew and kept the information from him on purpose.

That's probably his arguement. If the buyer claims his parents told him they would lower the buying price if he didn't use an inspector, making it look like his parents knew about the issue and covered it up. I could see it being somewhat of an issue.

Depends on who said not having an inspector?

If he said he didn't need one, then he is shit out of luck.

I am actually surprised he got a mortgage without it being inspected though

Which is why I said if the buyer claims his parents told him not too. I bet it was a conversation so it's their word vs the buyers. If it's in the agreement, then it obv depends on what it says.

There is a chance that he's sol because he didn't get one anyways as its his choice in the end.

What in the flying fuck?

So my parents sold their house earlier this year in April, and just received an email today from the buyers realtor that they may sue my parents for damages, unless they can pay everything and avoid getting the court/lawyers involved.
Apparently, they hired some guy to fix some flooring in the basement, and in the process he found out that there was a black mold on the baseboards of a wall, and he told them that this is due to a major leak.
They're accusing my parents for hiding this information before selling the house to them (my parents lived in the house for 15+ yrs), except my parents didn't know about this "major" leak either, nor the people during open house, and even the current buyer til he hired some guy to rip off some flooring.
Parents also told me that they sold it to this guy for a lil cheaper than other offers because he had way less conditions and didn't want to do any house inspections.

I basically told my parents to get a lawyer and deal with this clown right away.
Should they even bother?

they should probably be asking their real estate lawyer

Had this same issue with my house when I bought it.
I had an inspector and everything. He didn't say shit.

Then after we own it for a few months. The city wanted to come see our deck in back yard cause I guess the retard owners before me never got a permit for it.
My realtor should have checked to see before letting us buy it but they didn't.
Long story short, we talked to our lawyers and they forced the previous home owners to pay for it to be rebuilt and proper permit.
The lawyers I'm talking of are the ones you deal with in a house buying transaction. Not some civil court lawyer.

I won because the hack owners before me did a hack job building the steps of the structure. And didn't pull a permit for it.
City comes out and says stairs are not legit. And had to be rebuilt. Cost 1500$

When I spoke to the lawyers. They said the onus is on the ppl who sold the house to me to fix it. And that it was our realtors fault for not noticing there was no permit.

I didn't pay a dime. It's the same as them trying to hide things without fixing it.

You can't draw a dime either.
