This is a huge day for the Oilers... Charelli taking over as President of Hockey Ops and GM... It looks like they've finally realized that the old boys club isnt working. Edmonton might start seeing forward progress for the first time since Gretzky left. Good for them.

GL Trading Yak for any more than a bag of pucks these days. I dont see how he has any value currently.

Roy has turned him into quite the player.

He's much more mature this season and can only get better.

You dont trade a known commodity for "Can only get better". Best case scenario you get a prospect d-man for Yak... I'd say it would be smarter to keep him until he atleast shows he can put up 50-60 points in this league.

I don't think they trade him anyways. But he's definitely starting to look like that 1OA.

They need some depth at wing though because they've got nobody after Eberle, Hall, Yakupov.

Meanwhile at centre they've got RNH, Roy, McDavid, Draisaitl.

Eberle - RNH - Hall
Pouliot - McDavid - Purcell
Draisailt - Roy - Yakupov
xxx - xxx - xxx

I think they want to keep Roy so idk if Draisaitl even fits in until next year

And Draisaitl can play the wing ;-)

Ease him into the nhl on wing before throwing him in center again.

Draisaitl Roy yak

Would be a good third line

Oh, okay then :)

Their forward group is definitely good enough with that top 9 to be a playoff team. Just a matter of give/take trying to buffer their defense/goaltending.

McDavid is untouchable,
you don't want to trade away RNH or Hall
I don't know much about Draisaitl

Which is why I feel from Oilers perspective, Eberle and Yakupov are expendable

I agree. But I'd like to keep yak to replace eberle.

There's no way you can keep McDavid, RNH, Hall, Yakupov, Eberle, Draisaitl (if hes good) all at same time especially down the road with contracts. You probably have to lose 2 of them.

Drasaitl is most expendible IMO. He was drafted to be 2C and with RNH and McJesus, they're gonna end up paying him $6m to be a 3C. Trade him and Eberle and they'll be fine.

If Draisaitl is any good. I don't know much about him other than he's 3rd overall 2014. But can you get much for trading him? That's the issue since he doesn't have the big name or stats

Should be able to get plenty, he was pretty highly touted last year. I'd bet you could get a first in the 10-20 range for him at a minimum. Not in this draft, of course... too deep.
