Or do deadlifts instead. The answer to his question is yes, you can develop your lower body just fine without doing squats lol.

Dead lifts and squats should both be done . They both target different primary muscles .

Just because they hit the most muscles that doesn't mean he has to do them if he's uncomfortable. Plenty of exercises to substitute, just likely means he'll have to do a couple or a few instead of just one.

of course it's not necessary but if you don't suqat at all on leg days your training is not even near optimal for your body

It's best practice but it's not necessary. There are alternatives. Or, if it's the weight he's worried about, he could do jump squats with a lighter load.

If you don't work the muscles squats work, I agree. It's not some magical exercise that works out parts of your body that can't be worked any other way lol. That's just broscience to say squats can't be substituted.

well you are most likely to blow your knees out on jump squats than ''normal'' squat

If you fuck it up or try to jump as high as you can maybe lol. The downward force from a jump squat using much less weight isn't gonna be a lot different than a normal squat. It should be less on the way up, about the same on the way down. Like you said it's a form thing, but if he's worried about it then he may be psychologically more comfortable with jump squats.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I think I will get over it at some point. I will try some of the other exercises suggested then get into squats with a low weight first until i am 100% confident on my posture.

Any good site (with a calculator or something) that tells you how many calories + macros you should be eating daily based on current height/weight/age/sex and future goals?

Get the myfitnesspal app. It does exactly that and will track what you eat against those goals.
