You dont read much and just shoot from the hip, huh?

The city paid 226 million plus an additional 127 million in rent. Basically they wont make any money from the Katz group for rent. Ever.

Taxpayers: The city is paying almost $313 million with much of that coming from a so-called community revitalization levy, which will see a portion of downtown property taxes redirected to the project. The city will own the building, but will lease it back to the Oilers and the team’s owner, Daryl Katz.

The team: The team is paying $166 million. Some of that is in cash, but most of it comes from rent payments to the city. The team will retain all the revenue from the operation of the building. Katz, in turn, has promised to keep the Oilers in Edmonton for at least the next 35 years.

Ya. I've read it lots. Would love to know where your numbers came from

Ah your new arena was sketchy as hell getting approved tbh. Katz donating 430k to Redford's campaign when the individual limit for political donations is 30k or so. He got Gretz to get a tour of Seattle with him and flip the bird to the fanbase who named a big street after him, etc. What a prick, nty, Nenshi's too smart and straight for that corruption imho.

Tkachuk with a flying elbow on Lemieux last night, then a couple cross checks to the back of the head, lel. Later ejected from the game for something else and high fives the crowd on the way out. Guy is a wrecking ball.

Funding for Rogers Place
Rogers Place is being built for $483.5 million, including underground parking.
The Katz Group is paying $132.5-million. $112.8-million of their contribution will be paid to the City as rent over 35 years, and cover the City’s principal and interest costs. The remaining $19.7-million will be paid as cash.
The City of Edmonton’s contribution of $226-million to the arena building includes funding through a Community Revitalization Levy, new parking revenues, and redirecting the current Rexall Place subsidy.
$125-million will be collected through a ticket surcharge.

My numbers came from the government site.

I cant honestly believe you think this deal is good for Edmontonians. The tax payers are basically paying for Katz to get his own custom built arena that he doesnt own. It's a win-win for Katz as far as I'm concerned because he doesnt have the hassle of owning a multi million dollar building and therefore the team isnt tied to the city at all. There is nothing to say he couldnt up and leave in 10 years or build a new arena or whatever. Maybe that's being paranoid or whatever but frankly it gives him the luxury of making that decision.

He signed a contract with city which keeps oilers in edm for 35 years. Nothing he can do about that. And him paying rent. Over 35 years. Do the math.

http://globalnews.ca/news/2927009/a-look-back-at-how-edmontons-rogers-place-is-being-paid-for/

That's how it's being paid for

Total cost: The final tab is almost $614 million which includes the arena, the land, a massive glass “Winter Garden” that stretches over the street in front, a community rink attached to the building and a connection to the city’s light-rail transit system.

Fans: Each person attending an event will have to pay a ticket surcharge. The deal calls for the proceeds to go to the city and be sufficient to cover the principal and interest payments, repaying $125 million over a 35-year term.

So paidnoff over 35 years.

P. Kane on Gaudreau:

>“I guess everyone wants to say we’re similar players because of our size and we’re both guys that produce offence, but he does some things I wish I could do,” said Chicago’s three-time Stanley Cup winner.

>“He’s a guy that’s just unbelievable on his edges – a little bit like (Blackhawks teammate Artemi) Panarin in that sense, where he can turn on a dime and lose his defenceman pretty quick. He’s such a good skater that even though he’s a smaller player he doesn’t really find himself getting caught in bad situations where he can get hit or knocked off the puck.

>“What an entertaining player to watch. He’s one of the few players around the league where you could go to a hockey game and pay just to see that one player.”
