Was listening to it on the radio and apparently Lochte did lose his wallet but they had also been to a brothel ("by mistake") at some point that night.
No idea why Lochte would decide to make shit like this up, one of the people on the radio thought maybe it was a lie to a manager/parent/SO and then that person reported it to the US Olympic Committee. From there Lochte didnt really have a choice but to keep lying. Was just a theory but makes some sense, unless it was just plain being a dick on Lochtes part.
