Alberta. Edmonton.

Went to my family doctor back in July/August 2017. Needed a referral to see a dermatologist to check out skin cancer shit. Don’t get to see him until may 28.

Imagine if someting was seriously wrong wit me and I had to go this long with waiting to see a specialist. If I had some sort of malanoma cancer it could have spread to numerous body parts by now.

Canadian healthcare.

E/ don’t get me wrong. Canadian healthcare is great at times. But for shit like this it’s a gongshow

Canada healthcare is shit, way too incompetent in bc.
I go to the Er cuz I got cut open above my eyebrow, and constantly bled out for 9 hrs waiting to get stitches, and had to put pressure on it entire time
Chick behind me has her entire half body scraped from motorcycle accident, dripping blood on floor non stop also waits 9.5hrs
Ppl in front of us were kids with bee sting and a tiny splinter they can't get out from hand, minor knee scrape from tripping that can be solved with polysporean etc.
Why?cuz Er is first come first serve, doesn't matter how severe Ur injury is, unless Ur literally close to dying.

Mis-use of resources is a huge issue with our health care. Another issue is people going to the same hospitals, there are resources to check wait times. There are definitely issues, but it's better than the alternative of a private run system.

You are waiting 8 months because it is a precautionary check. If it was more serious, you sure as fuck wouldn't be waiting 8 months.

If you want to dunk on the Canadian system thats fine, but at least complain about legitimate issues. Prioritizing a low risk person behind higher risk cases sounds exactly like what our system should be doing.

I just want to add on, there are way way way too many Web MD Certified Doctors these days too. A friend of mine recently became convinced he had cancer because of various health issues he was having(insomnia, night sweats, head aches, fatigue, etc). This started last summer, he began hounding his doctor for specific tests because he was convinced he had Lymphoma and so he continually went to the doctor when symptoms didn't improve. After waiting 10 months or so, he finally got specialized testing done just to find out he has a food allergy and is too stressed out. The majority of his stress was caused by the fact he thought he had lymphoma... so he basically caused a huge drain on our medical system and it was all in his head. This is the kind of stuff that makes it damn near impossible to design a "perfect" health care system. Same thing goes for length hospital waits, when the hospital 20 minutes away has a 10 minute wait.

(Also just worth saying my above anecdote has nothing to do with what you're saying SubZ. different situations for sure)
