I don't think a rebuild would be difficult, I think the management has fallen in love with the players (personally) so they don't want to break it up.

There would be a bunch of teams willing to trade for Hamhuis, Edler, Bieksa, Kesler (despite the injuries) and Burrows IMO. Sedins probably wouldn't waive but that's basically our entire core, minus the Sedins, out the door.

----

I think this current core can still do some damage, but we need another impact forward who can come up big in the playoffs (lol, like 29 other teams) and someone who can mesh well with Kesler 'cause nobody has chemistry with that guy. Schneider also has to play at an elite level for us to have a chance.

Problem is, we have almost no premiere assets to trade and not many teams have those kind of players on the trading block.

Especially with your team trading those impact players that you need to acquire by drafting (Hodgson) For Kassian...

we have to try to go after nathan horton, or a player like him. @ patriotic. I do not think it has gotten to that point yet..... but I fear it will if changes are not made.

Kind of unrelated but since we're talking about what's wrong with our team:

I feel like all the fans have become goalie apologists, similar to guys like Hrudey and Garrett who find an excuse for every goal allowed by a goaltender regardless of how obviously terrible it was.

Whether a person likes Luongo, or Schneider, or both, seems like we have kind of low standards.

Whenever our goalies let in a goal on a good scoring chance, we say: "well the defense hung him out to dry" instead of "we kind of needed a big save there".

And if our goalies let in a weak goal, we say: "well he did make a big save earlier so it evens out, I guess".

If you look at a guy like Rask, or Quick last year, or Thomas before that... you gotta play like lights out to win a cup.

You have to make every save you should make and many that you shouldn't make. And making a few good saves shouldn't give you credit to let in a softy.

Niemi was decent, but his team was so stacked it's kind of the exception.

Crawford has been really good IMO. Didn't need to be great vs. Minny but was in the round 2 and 3. Could be better in this finals series.

Luongo was NOT lights out in 11. He was average in the first two rounds and great in the 3rd. He was amazing for 3 games in the finals and bad for the other 4 lol.
