I hated public stick time because I never had full gear, and everyone's going hard in full gear. I'm not a big guy, I can skate well, but my shin will snap if that puck hits it hard.

Why wouldn't you wear shin guards?
I wear them even for ball hockey

well for one thing im 6'2 220 pounds so ya my bones are probably a bit thicker to take a casual bruising

But generally play pretty casual and people account for the fact that people aren't in full gear.

Occasionally we will try to get more people out and tell everyone to come ready for a full serious game not to get drunk etc but usually itspretty mellow

Our goalies hate coming out if we're not wearing minimum shins.
Just for the fact that we shoot less. And dangle more.
So they get less shots and walked more often. I can see why they don't find it as fun :D

our solution is beer or booze in their water bottles

it's against rink rules but they all know and no one cares

our goalies are generally these two brothers and they pay for the ice they are just happy to get us on the ice because we are lazy assholes and wouldnt do it if they didnt organize

i see what you are saying tho :P

I got my whole setup with two sticks, tape, practice puck for 200. Just gotta know where to go and, when necessary, how to clean and sterilize used equipment.
