Talks between Canucks and Tortorella for new coach

Seems like it's only a matter of time.

I'm excited. :D

Even if the team hates him, gonna love the interviews.

will be exciting for sure.

Not sure how well he will fit in, but the last couple years have been stale, nobody can argue that a change was not needed imo.

Good to shake things up.

Definitely a good shake up.

But the only way we'll improve is if MG improves the roster. I don't care who the coach is, we won't be able to get it done the way the team is built now.

I highly doubt Torts can light a fire under the Sedins and make 'em play like twin Forsbergs lol... roster needs a decent amount of tweaking.

MG has a lot of work cut out.
I could see him being let go if this next season doesn't have drastic improvement.
And by that I mean in the work-ethic of all of our personnel.
Can't keep picking up randoms and hoping it all works out.

TBH I thought he was going to be gone this year.

I agree with you, a change of culture is needed, I want a team that is ready to go to war and will never back down from a physical challenge. We were bullied by Boston in the SCF, LA did the same thing next year, and this year we could not hang with San Jose

I would like to see a rebuild, but it is easier said than done with all the players we have with NTC. If we start asking players to waive NTC the rest of the team might get pissed and the rift will get to the point where players are raging at management and the on ice product will suffer.

The team as a whole seems real buddy buddy and I do not think they will respond to a rebuild well, but someone we need to pull one off....

@Luler Ya I am not sure if Torts is the guy for us....... But hey at this point I am just happy to see an attempt to change is being made.

^

Always hear about how tight-knit the locker room is.

"Can't trade Raymond, he's too important in the locker room"

"Can't trade Bieksa, he's too important in the locker room"

Seems like they might be just content having a close bunch of friends playing together all with NTCs. Nobody from the core has been shipped out, they probably don't feel pressure from that angle.

---

Watching the semi-finals and finals this year, makes it obvious that the Canucks are a giant step behind these teams.

I know it kind of sounds stupid when pretty much the same group of guys were 1 win away from the Cup just two years ago, but I think we can all agree looking back now, it was just the result of almost everyone having a career year and very favorable matchups in the first 3 rounds.

Probably sums if up best. For most of our current team that was by far the best year they have had and most likely ever will have.

Our defensive core is aging and past prime for the most part. Kesler has had so many injuries he is not the same player he was when he went beast mode vs Nashville, I wish we could have a Kesler that dominant again, but it will not be happening.

We have so many core d-man 30+, many of which are tied in to long term and/or NTC contracts...... Sedin's registering 100+ point seasons will soon be a distant memory imo.

We need some fresh blood and a shakeup, but for reasons talked about in previous points I do not know how we will get around to making that happen.

The way our team is set up we have no leverage for trading, other Gm's are not dumb and they know this.... Our hands are tied in many ways and it is frustrating to see.

This Canucks team reminds me of the Leafs team we had with NTC all wanting to stay with there "buddys". saying they all wouldn't waive there clauses.

Better to get those cancers out of there now before they are worth nothing or screw the team over in the long haul completely like they did with Toronto.

I don't think a rebuild would be difficult, I think the management has fallen in love with the players (personally) so they don't want to break it up.

There would be a bunch of teams willing to trade for Hamhuis, Edler, Bieksa, Kesler (despite the injuries) and Burrows IMO. Sedins probably wouldn't waive but that's basically our entire core, minus the Sedins, out the door.

----

I think this current core can still do some damage, but we need another impact forward who can come up big in the playoffs (lol, like 29 other teams) and someone who can mesh well with Kesler 'cause nobody has chemistry with that guy. Schneider also has to play at an elite level for us to have a chance.

Problem is, we have almost no premiere assets to trade and not many teams have those kind of players on the trading block.
