Reimer is rumoured to be out until January. The Leafs are looking into the free agent market for a starting goalie they could rely on to fill in for Reimer's absence. Some available goaltenders are veteran's Marty Turco and Evgeni Nabokov. I would be content if the Leafs acquired either.

An American private equity firm interested in purchasing a majority stake in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment has reached out to Wayne Gretzky to be part of their group, Sportsnet has learned.

It was earlier reported this week that the Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan could potentially sell it's 79 per cent share of MLSE to a U.S. based financial firm, Providence Equity Partners.

Two independent sources told Sportsnet that Gretzky has been approached by multiple groups interested in purchasing the majority stakeholder of MLSE, owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the latest being the Providence group.

When asked about the interest from the Providence group, Gretzky told Sportsnet: "Yes, I've been approached by multiple firms considering the purchase of MLSE."

Gretzky would not give any more details on potential roles or which specific groups have targeted him. He has also been on the record as saying he was still unsure if and when he would return to the NHL.

He is still owed more than $8-million in deferred money for his involvement in the Phoenix Coyotes. That money is still tied up in the ongoing legal and bankruptcy battles between the NHL and former Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes.

Sigh, more injuries

Quote
After suffering more injuries in Thursday's loss to the Nashville Predators, the Toronto Maple Leafs got some promising news on Friday.

Injured goaltender James Reimer spent about 35 minutes on the ice in with goaltending consultant Francois Allaire. He wore full equipment and faced some softer shots from the top of the slot and in close.

During another sequence, Allaire and strength and conditioning coach Anthony Belza passed the puck back and forth while Reimer followed the puck across the ice. He was wearing what appeared to be a heart-rate monitor on his wrist and checked it after each sequence.

Reimer has been making some progress off the ice, so the team decided to take it another step by allowing him to go on the ice.

Despite Reimer's progress, head coach Ron Wilson told the media that he won't be ready to play for a week to 10 days, and that's only if things progress smoothly.

The news on Mike Komisarek and Matthew Lombardi was not as positive. Lombardi left Thursday's game in Nashville with an upper-body injury and later left the arena with his left arm in a sling. Komisarek also left the game with an upper-body injury.

Both players are expected to miss a minimum of three weeks.

Clarke MacArthur, who sat out Thursday's game with an upper-body injury, is not expected to play on Saturday, but the team hopes he'll be back for Tuesday's game in Tampa.

The injury-plagued Toronto Maple Leafs got some good news Friday when starting goaltender James Reimer skated during an optional practice.

Reimer hasn't played been sidelined since getting hit by Montreal's Brian Gionta early in the first period of the Leafs-Canadiens game on Oct. 22. The Leafs have said he is experiencing concussion-like symptoms. Reimer last practiced with the team on Oct. 26.

Leafs coach Ron Wilson said Reimer won't be ready to play for at least another week.

"He said he felt fine but he only went out there for 15 minutes," Wilson said. "This is going to be a process that's going to take a little bit of time to get him ready. He hasn't really done anything in a month so he's fallen probably a little off on his conditioning.

"He won't be playing for at least another week to 10 days if everything goes smoothly."

The Leafs lost forward Matthew Lombardi and defenseman Mike Komisarek with upper-body injuries during Thursday's 4-1 loss in Nashville; Wilson said both are expected to miss at least three weeks. They are also playing without injured forwards Clarke MacArthur and Mikhail Grabovski.

Maple Leafs defenceman Mike Komisarek has a broken arm and will miss eight weeks of action. The blueliner blocked a shot on the arm in the third period of Thursday's 4-1 loss to Nashville, and will require surgery. With a number of Leafs sidelined, the team recalled Joe Colborne for tonight's game against the Capitals.
