Figured start of season he be gone. Would be biggest return for him then compared to deadline. Guess we'll see.

its late in the game to find someone thats competitive and wants to take on that kind of salary

based on a quick look at capfriendly the only competitive team that could realistically take him on without sending nhl talent back to chicago or be in a cap hell situation would be the Wild or MAYBE the Avs.
And thats only if they can get Chicago to retain 50%, and even then the Wild would still have to get an additional ~1.5m off the books.
The Avs could possibly do it as well, but theyd have to clear out ~2m after the 50% retention.
Teams with less cap space would have to send back significant nhl talent to make any trade work financially.

Rumor was that it was EDM and COL

Edmonton makes sense to me, they could probably take Murphy as well and send Barrie back.

Won't be cheap, though.
