even if its 1:1 i think id rather keep the pick top 5 picks are usually pretty good and even if they trade back and take the + they get to ditch salary they can be aggressive in FA and still get a prospect
there might be some big FA names out there possibly gaudreau forsberg giroux malkin kadri bergeron and some good not star names like niedereitter trochek etc why give up assets for debrincat when you can try to get these guys "free"

The difference is that you add a 40goal scorer AND a UFA to compete now. Rather than just 1 UFA and waiting on the 5th overall to be nhl ready in couple of years, hoping he's not a bust. Isn't Philly trying to win instead of going rebuild mode?

I can see them being hesitant if their ask was 2 1sts and prospect. However if it's straight up 5th oa for a 40g scorer, I think they'd do it no trade backsies

Still not sold on Debrincat. I guess I haven't seen him play enough but he plays with Patrick fucking Kane 5on5 and the PP. He's so tiny, what if he's the next Jeff Skinner? Gets his 9m contract and does nothing with it? Although Skinner just had a decent season

Then they're fucked. At the very least he proves that he can play in the NHL with a ppg player feeding him pts. Briefly playing with Toews or Strome didn't affect his scoring much either.
