unless it changed last couple years QC server minimum doesn't matter how much tip you make (because a lot is undeclared anyways) it would be less than the standard minimum so they do rely on tips
and was like 4$/hr less than reg minimum
In Ontario min wage is $14, going to 15 in 2019.
Server wage is $12.2 going to $13.05
If you average less than $14 when factoring tip you are entitled to $14/h.
Serving aint easy but i really don't think it that much worse than 100's of other minimum wage jobs, like packing in a factory, working in a lumber yard, construction labourer. It might not even be harder than like McD's, people at busy fast food fucking hustle in a nasty grease pit all day.
I usually type because i can afford it and i dont want to be a dickhead, but as a principle i think it's silly. they should get regular minimum wages and tipping should be encourage for good service but 100% optional. When we have bad service my GF demands to pay because she knows i'll tip anyhow and she doesnt want them to get a tip LOL

All this being said alot of the shit you see on Facebook about tipping is coming from the states, there are some states where wages and laws make it so they really DO need tips to get by
