Seems like the (Toronto) media generally is thinking the coach will be fired just to bring in a fresh voice and see if that sparks anything.

The more I think about it the more I believe there's zero chance MG blows it up. I think he'll do whatever he can to make sure we're a playoff team every year 'cause that's what will keep his job.

If he rebuilds we'll have losing seasons and he will probably get fired even if losing is a part of the process. Also, although we often hear the owner is dedicated to winning, he might sing a different tune when he sees the financial plan for the next several years and notices there will be no playoff revenue if we go with the rebuild.

I hope you guys do let AV go.

Most coaches have 2-5 years before their players stop listening, That doesnt mean they are a terrible coach it means that they could be of better use to a different team.

Avalanche could hire AV and it may really help them out

If I was Colorado, I definitely wouldn't.

I don't think AV would work with a young team. He wants every young player to be a two-way forward or grinder... if they're not, they don't play. Grabner, Shirokov, Hodgson and even Kassian are good examples.

Young players need to able to just play, make mistakes and learn. That's not how AV rolls.

I think the best fit for him would be a team that has established offensive players that aren't going to change their game offensively because of his style, but instead he could just give them some better structure. IMO he's a good defensive coach (partly the reason our team has been relatively successful over his regime). If he had it his way, he'd play a trap style all the time but our GM made him change.

IMO Philly would work if they're gonna fire Laviolette.

If Yzerman wanted Luongo it probably woulda been done already. Instead he opted for Lindback than Bishop.

Nothing really interesting from the Gillis conference, IMO. I guess the only news is that there is no major rebuild coming. He did promise changes but I think that's just something he said because the fans and media are not happy and he needs to sell hope.

Like expected, he made a ton of excuses for the current roster: injuries, refereeing, lockout, shortened season, etc.

I thought he was very vague for most of it. Talked a lot about trends, philosophies and new or different directions but didn't really explain what he was talking about lol.

One thing to note is that he said they'll focus on getting younger, bigger and tougher through the draft (LA or STL style?) and likely won't be trading draft picks away in the near future. I guess a "re-tool" is coming but with the contracts we have, I don't see how there can be major changes without a full rebuild.
