I'm not sure how to explain it but wouldn't the gravity of the "other side" of the chair lift cancel the momentum of the ones going down ?

Like the chairs that are going up the hill in the video, they should be attracted to the bottom of the chairlift and they would cancel each other out ? Maybe I'm missing something.

no cos ppl on chair going down hill > empty chair being dragged up by the fatasses
but yeh i dont think it was gravity alone, definitely a bug with the operation

Well. Once you get enough momentum on the cam shaft. It’ll freewheel easily and keep the momentum it’s gained. A chairlift line that’s maybe 1km in length has how many people on it? Hundred? Few hundred? Just guessing here but 100 ppl at an average of 175lbs is about 8.5 tons of weight rolling down the mountain.

Makes sense in theory. But I may be way off
