Leafs freeing up an awful lot of cap space. I have a feeling that were going to mention the leafs in this topic again within the next few days

I believe they would only save 100k on the cap by sending Connolly to the minors. Things aren't like they used to be.

I really think that someone will pick him up. Combine that with the Lombardi trade and the Leafs created $8 million in cap space

I see no point in anyone picking up connolly... unless its like a deadline deal for a team desperately iso a center.

What jbell said.
Leafs will retain a crap load of his salary and get a 3rd or 4th round pick out of it from some team trying to hit the floor.

If youre a small market team and can sign Conolly for say 1.5 M cash, and yet get the 4.75 M on your cap, its attractive.

Tim Connolly not on the ice at Leafs practice. It's expected Connolly will be placed on waivers. More opportunity for players in system.

great news :)

Before you could claim a player off of re-entry waivers for half cost. There are no re-entry waivers anymore.
