guns are everywhere in America and people buy guns mostly for selfish or ideological reasons. it's not like switzerland where you do it to serve in the militia and you have strict handling rules. even if you had laws to that end half of the states would be like "but muh freedomz" and no one would actually enforce anything. and even if you were to ban automatic weapons it would only reduce the lethaltiy of some incidents, and again "muh freedomz" idiots would just sell them under the table. then the problem of kids wanting to shoot up the world is entirely societal.

the short-term solution to reduce fatal incidents would probably be to either post police in schools (some already do this to combat gang crime/drug deals) and/or allow some teachers to carry guns (after safe handling + emergency scenario training). long term, probably more listening and reaching to people and less "fuck you I got mine" in daily life.

if there were more enforcers (in schools, hockey and etc.) people wouldn't have to resort to dirty hits or shootings etc.
