The only reason it hasn't happened already is because Benning is a pushover for the owner. The next GM won't play as nice, so the owner is likely hesitant, but eventually the fans are going to turn and he'll have no choice (it's already happening).

You know when just the President steps down for creative differences, something stinks. Aquilini not hiring anyone to replace Linden pretty much tells the tale.

Hasn't happened cuz it makes no sense in his point of view. Owners are losing money daily just by resuming this season. It makes no sense to fire Benning now, and hire another gm that will likely not do much this season anyway, and it's gonna be hard to find another gm that's a yes man for him. Aqua won't pay 2 salaries just to please bandwagon fans that tuned in from last playoffs either.

I think you have it right. It comes down to money.

Furthermore, what would new management be able to do anyways?

Trading is next to impossible right now and the team is buried in shitty contracts. Just have to ride it out really. Very little maneuverability from a gm standpoint.

To me, if Benning is fired right now it is more of a show for the fans than anything. Aquaman just belted out a long winded tweet stating he supports the current group and does not want to make changes. If he flip flops right now he is going to look like a moron.


Linden had a different vision and was not afraid to step away when he was not taken seriously.

Benning is a yes man, which everyone already knows.

But our owner has never been one afraid to spend, although it's ironically become a negative under Benning.

That would only make sense if it's a reasonable trade, at this point they're trying to trade virtanen to dump him. Heinen ain't bad either, but it's a lateral move at this point where both players may benefit with new teams. Like Anaheim can sign virt after aqua buys him out, and Canucks can sign whoever the fuck or heinen when Anaheim doesn't qualify him. If Anaheim was offering zegras, I'm sure aqua wouldn't mind adding 5mil np under the table lol

These owners probably feel 100k is like 1mil when they're losing money everyday while they're used to earning money. I guess this excludes owners like melynk who lost money anyway prior to covid
