wiess assigned to grand rapids
glad its not one of the young guys

It's a "conditioning stint." He's back up in 2 weeks at the most. I'd put money down that Holland is trying to give nestrasil time to prove he's worth staying and putting either cleary or weiss on waivers for. Usually don't get conditioning stints when you aren't coming off IR.

Wings have more than shown they're willing to burn a year of ELC to see what a kid can do.

I know there's a thread up already, but Howe had a stroke, guess it was pretty serious and he is home resting. Hope Mr. Hockey pulls through, he is getting up there though.

They interviewed his kids. He's been having increasingly larger strokes for the last 6 months. Murray said he's "on his last lap around the rink." It sounds like we're gonna be seeing a tribute this season :( Murray is a doctor at the hospital where they've been treating gordie.

Good news is they said he's in good spirits nonetheless. They're all staying with him and watching home videos and old clips of him playing.

Sad to hear but it was common knowledge his health was failing and I don't know many people who have accomplished more than he has, at least in professional sports. He's the reason hockey took off here, the reason for Gretzky and so many other amazing players to even put on skates. Sounds like he had a great family life too.

I'll be sending a card and something else. Not sure what yet. Might buy a trading card and have my brother and a few other wings fans I know sign it for him.

That's really nice and thoughtful. And regarding your last post, 86 is a long life as well. Few even make it to 85. But yea, hopefully he's comfortable and has said his goodbyes.

Stephen Weiss
Detroit Red Wings
Injury
Weiss pulled his groin in his first game with Grand Rapids (AHL).
Weiss' conditioning stint did not last very long… He will head back to Detroit and likely be placed on injured reserve to make room for Johan Franzen who is set to be back this weekend.
