[Gaffar] Sounds like the asking price for OEL may be a little steep for the Canucks at this point. Doesn’t mean they are out, but there is a gap, for sure. Gotta think all parties involved including if BOS is still interested would want this done pretty quick.

I hope Benning sticks his ground and doesn't give in being a nice guy and all.

If Boston takes him, oh well. If Boston also says nah, Arizona would be pressured even more. Too bad they're bleeding money and OEL wants to be traded to only these 2 teams.

from a practical standpoint I don't even know how an OEL trade would work. we'd obviously need to send very undesirable cap dumps back, meaning having to send meaningful assets too.

god if this is where Boeser is traded I'm fucking done. like, even sending Eriksson with him (who's cap rich cash poor) would be bad because OEL's deal is an albatross unto itself.

They just wanna get rid of oel cuz he is owed like 20m next 2yrs, 50m total left. I don't think boeser is going that way. Arizona can't pay salaries and have trouble paying, thus theyre considering trading their best player. Getting Sutter or Eriksson would help em financially, since they're off the books sooner and is cheaper real money owed. It's more of a business trade than a hockey trade for them.

Although they obviously want some good prospects and players back. I just hope Benning knows the leverage is on his side than theirs lol.

well that's been Benning's problem historically, not knowing whether he's in a position of strength or weakness.

the Miller trade was great, but in this case we appear to have even more leverage since it's a cash squeeze + NMC limitation and we don't need him either.

but it could come down to a game of chicken between Arizona and OEL himself. the economic crisis WILL make some owners run out of cash and OEL could be in a situation where he's simply not paid what he's owed for several years. yes it'd be a huge embarrassment for the league but it'd be a common theme throughout sports. he's lived in Phoenix for a long time so he could be say, more amenable to a trade to other sunny states like Florida or Cali.

both Canucks and the Bruins are cap squeezed, it'd make no sense for us to say take on OEL and let Tanev/Markstrom walk. or for Bruins to do it then let Krug walk. if Arizona can't get a passable return they will simply hang on to him until he changes his mind, and if the bill comes and they literally can't make payroll I honestly think the owners will say fuck it and skip on the bill.

i remember him being a really good d man but i havnt seen him play much in the last couple seasons
always felt like he would be so much better off not in arizona

I think he's decent, just being paid like 1d. It's just his term is too long and 8m cap for 2d is expensive. But yeah, if he doesn't play under yotes system I think he will be fine.

Canucks have an offer on the table for oel awaiting response from Arizona. Plz god no overpay.
