Schenn agreed to a five-year contract with the club on Thursday night. While exact details of the deal have not been made official, it is believed that Schenn will earn approximately $3.5 million per season.

Thoughts so far after 2 preseason games:

Defense:

-Schenn looked like he was trying to do too much to warrant his new contract. He needs to relax and keep his simple, positionally sound game intact.
-Gardiner looks fantastic out there! Not only can he join the rush, he is fast enough to double back and cover for any mistakes he makes. I love him this year. The question is, where/how will he fit into a over populated blue line?
-Komi is playing a simple, steady defensive game, and to be honest I don't hate him as much as last year.
-Phaneuf was great the first game, but invisible the second. When someone runs into your goalie (Reim) you need to do something about it.
-Franson has impressed.
-Blacker didn't look that bad either
-Gunnar has calmed down, and reminds me a little of Kaberle with his patience.
-Liles is liles, nuff said.

Offense:

-KADRI! This young man is miles ahead of where he was before, and has looked like our best overall player on this ice as of now. I am pretty damn sure that the 3rd line left wing job is his to lose at this point.
-Frattin/Coulbourne have been ok. Rookie mistakes aside, they have played well.
-I am far more nervous when the L/C/K line is on the ice then when the K/G/M line is. Maybe its because Grobo and Co. are more defensively sound then the Kessel line. Too early to tell.
-Was anyone else impressed with the Kadri/Bozak/Armstrong line in the first game? Looks like magic so far.

Goal:

-Reimer will be fine. End of story. Moving on.
-Gus didn't look too bad in his first debut in like 8 months. Need to see more of him however.
-Scrivens has impressed me for his whole time in the minors, and even now. I want to seem him in net in a game vs a more complete line up then Ottawa.

Overall:

I want to find a way to squeeze Gardiner into the lineup. I think he can pull a Kaberle and join the club right from the word go. The rest of our defense looks promising. Offensively Kessels line needs some time to form some chemistry. And I will say it one more time: Reimer will be fine.

I feel a little bad, as I don't recognize any of those names.

Whats the word on the game tonight?

I think Miller is too good of a goalie to let the score get too big, and I think Reimer has something to prove after his terrible performance before.

2-1 Leafs.
