Sources say Shea Weber injury has his season likely over and his future in question. Told injury is related to foot that was surgically repaired in 2018. While waiting for swelling to alleviate and further confirmation, surgery seemed unavoidable going into this week.

Wouldn’t he just live out his career on LTIR and continue being paid...?

They took most of the ltir contracts to get the extra space on their cap (the ones who are out for good but not retiring)

Doesn't he need to prove he's injured to be paid by insurance ?

Like if you get career ending injury you're no longer ltir? Dunno

Habs can just let him retire and give him random management job for 5 mil per year

Ltir doesn’t add cap space. Leafs wanted more LTIR cap this summer because they had some already but needed more to sign the $ figure contract they had too because of how LTIR doesn’t kick in until you exceed the cap. Long story short if you don’t have any LTIR at all there’s no reason to want more.

his salary is very low next couple years anyway, a team like Arizona might use him for cap space
