I think LA was such a shitshow there was no sense for him, or a lot of the guys on the team to even put in an honest effort.

My guess is the old vets are bitter because their time has passed and it was a terrible environment to begin with. Then you have the negatives hanging above you because of your contract.

He goes to Montreal, who showed they wanted him and is surrounded by some younger guys who want to win.

It is far easier to be a motivated vet playing for that team vs a stale Kings group with that contract imo.

The effort level he is bringing to Montreal is great to see.

Found it: https://thehockeywriters.com/hall-tavares-free-agency-changes/

“(Tavares) did something that really hasn’t been done before,” said Hall, who has yet to begin talks with New Jersey on a new deal. “He made a decision for himself and was definitely aware of the ramifications in Long Island and all that, and I think he’s pretty happy about it.”

“You’re starting to see players want to — I don’t know if it’s paid what they’re worth — but they want to see what’s out there and see what the other 30 teams have to offer,” said Hall, a winger with the New Jersey Devils. “That’s in the players’ rights.”

Imagine Arizona misses the playoffs and Hall walks.....

What a step back that would be.

They have been struggling of late and the Pacific is so tight there is a possibly they could miss the playoffs.

Hall might walk either way simply because he's played for basically the three worst organizations in the nhl's last decade and probably wants to know what it's like to play for a top program

 so true

Even if Arizona makes the playoffs this move is silly knowing he will be "testing" free agenzy. He isn't staying there and yotes are no where near being cup contenders.

To be clear, I didn't mean contenders even. Just bad organizations.

I'm sure before he dies he'd be curious to know what it's like to play for a team with legit facilities. Not the old Edmonton stadium and the NJDumpsterFire
