Overreaction

Laine didn’t even say anything. A reporter said he said it and there are no quotes on record. You don’t think every single NHL player has bitched to a friend / family member / whoever about them deserving more? I’m sure 99% of them have.

Very similar situation as the Sens in the uber. Every player will bitch about their coach, they just got caught.

Both of these are correct.
You're playing at the professional level. Guys are competitive. They want and expect the best at all times.
1) it's a game of telephone
2) so the guy wants to play with the best, big deal. Who doesn't want to be on Crosby's line? I'd say "show me." Go show us that you should be on the top unit and take someone's job. That's all it is - take someone's job.

there's a difference, you can bitch to those people since you know they wont repeat your words and that will affect your career
saying this to a reporter that have a job to report what someone says to the media that hire him

Laine might just be tired of playing for Maurice/Jets and trying to force himself out, hence the comments.

Either way, I dont really get the huge over-reaction, was anything he said wrong or THAT out of line? He's scored 110 goals in his first 3 NHL seasons, led the Jets in goals scored in 2 of those seasons and is a 0.5 goals per game player. He's often criticized for not being a 200ft player but that's not his game, he's here to score goals. Why they'd burry him on the 3rd/4th line and 2nd PP unit doesnt make sense to me. Put him in a position to succeed, I think he's earned that much.

I think the biggest problem is that he doesn't even play 10 ft. No one expects him to play 200ft,they expect him to at least be involved in the game and move his feet. However he's often in his own world day dreaming and waiting for the puck to come to him as he stands there, even if it's a stick length away.

Do you remember that clip where big buff had enough of his shit and yelled you gotta move your feet! So damn loud, it was broadcasted? Lol and it's coming from overweight buff lool

I’m not a Laine fan at all, he’s lazy and soft and I think overrated. Still though he’s a 21 year old kid who has proven to be a top goal scorer and overreacting to those comments is laughable

He can shoot a puck, that’s about it, playing with a better line would give him more opportunities to shoot pucks. I don’t think he’s really out of line, although he should need to earn the ice time

I agree he can definitely be lazy at times, but I think sometimes you gotta motivate guys. Putting Laine with the top line might give him the motivation to start moving his feet more. People will freak out over this, but at the end of the day he's a top end young talent. You need to keep that guy happy and in your organization.

Now, this is why I say maybe he's tired of Maurice because Maurice definitely comes across as the type of guy who has the "Always earned never given" mentality.
