“You come into the big camp with the willingness to make the team, so that’s the only thing I’m going to focus on right now,” Mantha said Friday. “We’re going to build off of that and we’re going to see how the camp goes and if I play in the exhibition games, things like that. It will be Mike (Babcock) and Kenny’s decision to decide if they keep me or not.”

Mantha was a scoring machine in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, producing 160 goals and 283 points in 226 regular-season and playoff games. He added 17 pounds of muscle in the offseason, bulking to 217 pounds, while continuing to work on sharpening his defensive skills.

I've actually met him twice lol, he's from my hometown and one of my good friends is friends with him.

Same as mrazek. They could put up 150 goals and 82 wins each and Holland wont bring them up early.

It is annoying. But I see the "gamble" so to speak. You think a kid is going to be great. You put him in and it doesnt go so well, now you have just affected his confidence potentially long term.

Me though- I would love to be able to get to see a kid come in and be great for once. But Holland has always been emphatic about not having anyone in the NHL before the age of 23 or 24.

I'd like to see Mantha up for the 9 game tryout. Put Cleary in GR to help him get back into the swing of things and send jurco down, he's going down anyway. Weiss will be injured before the end of those 9 games and they can decide whether Jurco comes up with Cleary or Mantha stays.
