You're correct in saying that a caloric deficit is needed to lose weight, and that people are different in the sense that their metabolisms vary, and other aspects such as size etc affect caloric maintenance levels.
The point I was making was that, regardless of metabolisms, if you want to cut at -500 calories, you should have a maintenance of at least 2300 so you can cut at 1800 calories. If your maintenance is less than 2300, say 2100, you should not cut to 1600 but instead increase workload to burn the extra couple hundred calories.
Sure, cutting at 1600 will still cause you to lose weight, but the long term effects are negative such as fatigue, malnutrition, chemical imbalances, and other things.  This is irrelevant of size or metabolism.

Thank you for the explanation!

I can see how this could really cause some terrible problems down the road, so it appears this is a habbit nobody wants to get into.

How can you even eat less than 1800 anyway? Eating only vegatables and water? lol

What do you track your food on? Doesn't seem you'd be getting enough micro nutrients or fibre

this is pretty bad because you body will eventually get used to have so low calories and you will lack physical/physiological energy and you will have a hard time eating more than 1500 calories and will actually start gaining fat if you eat more than that
