No doubt , this coming year should be his first seeing nhl minutes ( maybe a brief call up last year ) that’s just where he’s at development wise. No argument we rush draft picks. I’ll argue till I’m dead that Yakapov was a bust on 30 other teams tho.
Our record over the last 10 or so years is not much worse than any other team and better than many ( 29 / Nurse /). Our reputation is based on how many high picks we get and in most cases is just a numbers game proving that even top 10 picks are still a crapshots quite often.

/e I’m really curious as too what teams interested in JP’s plan is , the NHL isn’t a development league and JP isn’t ready for quality NHL minutes. If he’s unhappy here getting 10 minutes against teams 4rth line how different will he feel in his new home.

He didn’t start with any success in that year, and the following year he had a brief 20 game stretch playing with Strome on the 3rd line that he looked somewhat comfortable.

Irony is Tavares changed the game last year for player's contracts, and the Leafs benefited. Now Marner is following in Tavares' footsteps and the Leafs will probably get burned for it.

Who can afford marker on a offer sheet? 12 mill and 4 firsts is allot to give up

Set a really bad precedent with the Tavares deal IMO.

Honestly, getting Marner off the books for 4x 1sts wouldnt be the worst thing. They have a big time issue on defense and cant afford to pay anyone if they're hamstrung by 3x 11+ M guys. Losing Marner would give them the ability to keep Reilly and Barrie next year as well as add a couple actual NHL defensemen this year.

Yeah. And the Nylander deal was just horrible on top of everything else..

I saw NJD also has 20m space iirc... all teams not expected to do bad in the standing making those 1st rounders suspect
