Idk how hard this concept is hard to understand... it's not a game lol it's a business... Melynk constantly loses money, doesn't want to spend money, and his solution is to spend more money each year to reach the cap floor every year?? lmao

melnyk shoulda been all over the marleau contract
its a 35+ buyout so it counts towards the cap hit but he only had to pay minimal salary amount to actually buy him out AND its only for 1 year
woulda got like 6m caphit for less then 1m actually paid out iirc

that is 100x better then taking on eriksson or lucic or zaitsev but melnyk was prob like "i dont wanna pay a player to not play"

yeah he should be drooling over dead contracts, high cap hits with least amount of real money he has to pay to the player

lucic & zaistev wouldnt be a good contract for him to take though, as a lot of money is still owed. Melynk would might as well just sign a UFA at high AVV for much less term.
