Honestly probably one of demko or markstrom is getting picked unless a high pick is tossed Seattle’s way. So prob won’t be a huge deal if we get lucic.

No need to protect yamamoto? Curious about bear on defence is he worth protecting?

Both those forwards are exempt , we would go with 8 skaters since we have a lot of d to protect. I’d rather not lose Bear but he’s no legit blue chip yet. Moving Sekera solves the bear situation if he has a standout AHL year coming up

/e Benson being the other forward

According to capfriendly you do have to protect him.
With lucic and the big 3 upfront plus
Klef/nurse/larsson
On the back end that’s 8 f/d not counting bear and or poolparty

Lucic could wave his nmc for the draft , Seattle would probably be appealing to him. Alternatively if he’s committed to Edmonton he could waive knowing there is no chance Seattle takes him. Also have you seen our roster we only need to protect 3 forwards.

Apparently he can't, forgot who updated it but he d have to verbally say it but nothing official. Also le is owed much less after this season, so it's a boner contract for someone like melynk that wants to pay less but reach cap floor ez

This past year was the first year of his elc so no need to protect as he will have 1 more elc year at time of draft.

1. Why wouldn't players be able to waive their NMC to make them eligible to be selected by Seattle? It's a clause that they are allowed to enact or dismiss however they please.

2. NMCs and NTCs aren't carried over to the new team when a player is traded. The new team and the player can agree to uphold the clause if they want, but the team isn't obligated to do so. If Lucic is traded to the Canucks, they aren't going to honor his NMC and he'll know that going into it (which might kill the deal).

It'd be really dumb if one of them was chosen by Seattle, it would mean the planning was piss poor. More likely scenario is that Markstrom is traded before the expansion draft to a team that has no goalie.

I don’t think anyone needs to add, 1 for 1, they are equally bad contracts. I also would rather have Lucic than Eriksson personally. I don’t think there is an out for Edmonton with lucic.
I also don’t believe we need to do anything with JP, trading him for nothing does nothing for us.

Lucic is not a better player than Eriksson. Eriksson is still good defensively and on the PK and can move up to a offensive line if need be due to injuries. He was brutal all season and still put up almost 3rd liner production.

Lucic's production over the past 3 years has gone from 2nd liner to 3rd liner to 4th liner and next year he's a year older and probably another step slower. The only thing he has going for him right now is his "toughness" and "leadership" and I don't know how much that's been a factor in Edmonton thus far.

All that said, and despite Lucic having an extra year, the Canucks would have to add something to get Pulju. It would make more sense for the Oilers to trade him elsewhere.

I hope we can get him somehow. The Oilers probably don't want to trade him though, even if he wants out. His stock is at a low point in value and they probably think they can make him worth more and then trade him.

21 is still young and under the right guidance I still believe he can develop to be a solid top 6 player.

I agree with you on Lucic. Speed is such an important factor in todays game. Eriksson is slow but not Lucic slow. He can still somewhat player hockey on a bottom and pk role.

Lucic is so slow he is a liability despite the physical power he brings. It really is too bad because the Canucks need someone who can throw down and keep guys in line.

I still have no idea why Edmonton got him with the initial plan of playing with Mcdavid. He was a bit faster back then but still on the slow end. It was just a terrible idea, much like signing Eriksson to play with the Sedins initially when we were rebuilding anyways...

GM's fail miserably with their decisions sometimes.

Sens still had to protect Phaneuf iirc
