you all say this like he has to sign the offer sheet.

if he dosent want to leave he dosent have to sign an offer sheet

Ah hell ya he signs it. Better $ than his team is offering, and teams always match. Weber and OReilly got themselves paid AND stayed with their teams.

Nah he was FA, last nhl offer sheet was O'Reilly, which basically cost Feaster his job. Players love offer sheets, its often for more $ than they even ask for.

Looking at offer sheets, Nucks offersheeted Backes in 07? wtf

CHICAGO – The Chicago Blackhawks, who have lost seven players since winning the Stanley Cup a month ago, said Monday they plan to keep 23-year-old restricted free agent defenceman Niklas Hjalmarsson.

Calling Hjalmarsson one of his team’s “core” players, Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said Monday that Chicago will match the four-year, US$14 million offer sheet the defenceman signed with the San Jose Sharks last week. Bowman said the team would complete the paperwork within the next day

I hope it happens but tend to think this is just bored media members drumming up drama....

If he does take an offer sheet, it'll likely be around 10.5 (Does this put the Leafs in cap issues?). Would net Toronto 2x 1sts, 1x 2nd and 1x 3rd if he signs under 10.568M. I just dont see how Toronto doesnt match if it's under, and if it's over... do you take the 4x 1sts?

E: Pretty cool tool here: https://www.capfriendly.com/offer-sheet-calculator

Shows the compensation tiers as well as which teams have the picks to make an offer sheet.

Leafs have around 9 mil ( 14 when Hortons LTIR kicks in)with 3 forward and 2 d spots too sign. Talk around Edmonton is maybe we should offer sheet Kapanen, at 4.2 it’s only a second rounder for compensation. I don’t see how they wouldn’t match but spit balling 10 mil for marner , they’d probably like to spend around 8 on the 2 d considering they are middle pairing guys that need to be replaced. that leaves them short 4 mil before including Kapanen. If they matched a Kapanen sheet they wouldn’t be able to match a Marner one, I’m assuming they can’t use the LTIR cap space till season starts. This will be the off season Dubas legacy is made one way or the other.

yeah you can only activate the ltir day 1 of the season iirc flyers had to do that with pronger
idk if it changed but you were also allowed to go 10%? over the cap during the offseason as long as its fixed by day 1 when ltir can be activated

so i believe they could technically sign both go into the season over cap as long as its within 10% and activate the ltir and be fine as long as they arent over the ltir cap they gain
