Well to be fair we moved in 2013-14, and the playoff streak ended in 16-17... But yeah holland has definitely had some questionable signings and a not so great track record down the stretch, however, much of his decisions were being made from ownership and he was told to do whatever it took to 'extend the streak'. after Mr. Illitch died that pressure on him to 'just get in' was somewhat lifted and he made some pretty darn good trades... Plus his previous history of tremendous success in the late 90's early 2000's, not saying he's the man for the job, but he is definitely a lot betther than he often gets credit for
Have you seen his signings & trades;
It’s still not known how recent top picks like Michael Rasumussen and Filip Zadina will turn out. But that’s not a huge haul of talent though from ten drafts. It didn’t help that Holland traded away two useful centres in Jarnkrock and Janmark-Nylen for veteran players, depleting his Detroit roster in a key position.
When it comes to contracts, Holland has had a weak team with a high cap hit for years now, partly because he’s overpaid in a major way on numerous deals, including Trevor Daley (three years at $3 million per in July 2017), Frans Nielson (five years at $5.25 million per in July 2016), Darren Helm (five years at $3.85 million per in July 2016), Justin Abdelkader (seven years at $4.25 million per in Nov. 2015), and Stephen Weiss (five years at $4.9 million in July 2013).
There were also some bad trades, in particular moving a 21-year-old Jarnkrock for an aging and ineffective 33-year-old David Legwand in 2014.
