I had mixed emotions about it. He deserves the boos because of the way he left. He said he wanted to stay and snow trusted him (idiot). Getting nothing in return for a star player in his prime is brutal.
but he also deserves recognition. He was still an islander for 9 years, always played with sub par players, shitty coaches and GMs, and shuffling between home arenas.
I'll never forget game 6 against the panthers. he single handedly gave the islanders their first playoff round win in 23 years. My most favorite game I've ever been to.
