I have a sort of existential crisis looking back at D3. Today, looking back, it really wasn't that great a game. It has its fun parts, but a lot of it was boring, repetitive, grinding. You couldn't keep up at the beginning without throwing hundreds of $ at the auction house, which is what everyone at the top did. That's fucking stupid, so I didn't. But then how the hell did I put in over 850 hours into it in the first 3 years? If it wasn't a good game, why did I throw so much time and energy into it? Why did anyone? Doesn't add up.

it's a good game but not for me anymore. would of played it like crazy when i was younger

Because it was super fun.

It isnt looking back on it, becasue they made it for babies, at first it was SO FUCKING HARD, I dont think i even beat it(solo) on inferno until the first nerf. I remember only DH's and Wiz's were able to solo past act 2 inferno and that was using exploits.

Those days were fucking awesome, I never invest in the RMAH but i sold stuff and reinvested everything i could have taken out (other than what became my fg) I think I have played about 1000 hours at this point.

It had its time, it has fucking sucked for a while now though

I personally played because it still had the Diablo "feel" and I kept this hope that eventually the devs would figure it out and fix the game.

Every once in a while I have this "urge" to play D2 or D3 if I haven't played in a while  Was pretty close to playing the recent D2 ladder but I resisted.

Looking at the trade sections for D2, seems like a lot more people playing than I would have thought.

Yaaa. I remember the first time I beat it. Was before the big nerf, but I think I beat it a bit over a month after launch when CM wizards blew up and broke the game for a while there. And then there were a few years when you couldn't switch acts midgame, and those fucking stacks... so you're join act 3, get your 5 stacks, and do those Alkeizer runs till you wanted to jump out a window. When the expansion dropped I became a top 50 or so player for a while, those were a few good months there. Back dps meant somthing, I remember being top 10 for wizards for week or two.

I think we were all tricked.

It's strange how this stupid game does that.

There's people playing the game but not leveling characters I think. When I make a character I look at the game list and there might be 1-3 public games.. and if I can't join up with a party it gets boring quick

Whenever you're playing with people you know it can be fun, doesn't really matter what it is. Like you said, looking back it's hard to see why I spent so much time on this dumb game.

Yeah that's the thing. They didn't want the game to be D2 2.0, they wanted to create an entirely different game.

I guess if that's their vision and they wanna stick with it that's fair but I think the majority of fans just wanted a new/updated D2 because the formula just works too well.

I know I'd still be playing D2 if there were no hacks and the community was larger. Seems pointless when people have PVP hacks.

The thing is, they completely missed on what the thing was that made D2 fun. It was the community. Above all else, it was fun to join random games, fuck with people, baal with people, rush your newbie ass friends, sit in channels and BS with people, whatever. People were known by their character names and what realm they resided on. They removed all of that. Without the community it feels like playing a solo game with 'bots'. That's what kept D2 popular for so long. Thats what made D2 end-game bearable because I'm not here living in some fantasy world claiming that D2 had great end-game content.

Edit: The community thing is the big thing that pushed me away from WoW aswell. They basically did the exact same thing to WoW by introducing cross-realm BGs and instances. They tried to make the games too efficient and casual friendly, thus destroying the community and reason for me to log on.

Oh well, I've got other chit I can play B)
