i might just be oldschool i just dont find the flashy offensive d men to my liking when it comes to prospects unless they are sound defensively to many times in todays nhl do i see bad plays/turn over from d men trying to create offense
i think thats why im most excited for morin he keeps it simple and plays D not the best offensively but apparently has a good 1st pass and hard shot it can come with time
pretty firm believer that offense can be taught but being good defensively is something you either do or dont have and i dont think it can be as easily taught as offense
Im more excited about a dman like duncan keith, doughty, pietrangelo, subban ETC. Than a great sound defensive player like Regehr (in his good ol days) and players like him. Dont get me wrong, I reaaaaally like Morin.
But Sanheim is a very, very intelligent player and he is progressing so rapidly its really stunning. You can't teach work ethic, competitiveness (or however its called), hockey sense, pure talent.
I think the offensive d men you described corresponds to Ghost more than Sanheim anyway. Try to watch him play
Edit: I'm not comparing him to Lidstrom or anything, just want to point out Lidstrom didnt need to be physical and all, he was just very intelligent with his stick and his positionning wich made him such an amazing d-man
