if they pay taxes in the States it shouldn't matter whether they're citizens or not.

I'd assume the bureaucracy knows how to tell whether an applicant has actually filed their taxes but ya know, US and efficient government don't go hand in hand.

yeah, my younger brother interned for him during his most recent campaign and he had all the interns basically just be telemarketers.
His script was mostly talking about Trump destroying America, and then how Gavin was going to keep California safe from Trumps influence lol.
There was almost nothing in the script about his actual policies, just about him protecting California from Trump
Then they were told to text the number once a day asking if they were going to vote for Newsome or John Cox. and only to stop texting the number if the person replied to stop.

It was kinda ridiculous since most people in California are NEVER going to like Trump, and would NEVER have voted for Cox over Newsome anyways (as evidenced by Newsomes landslide victory lol)
so it was just a gigantic waste of time especially on my brothers behalf since he literally got NOTHING out of the 6 months he interned for when he couldve been working instead.
He said the only thing he learned was how to efficiently harass somebody over the phone and that politicians just use interns so they dont have to actually pay people to do the grunt work.

When running for governor focusing on what you're going to do about the president instead of the actual policies you intend to implement would be a better use of resources and more informative to the voters.
Especially since he was winning 100% regardless, he needlessly played on the TDS of the voters instead of use the platform to inform them of what he plans to do when he gets elected.
He just wasted the time of the people who wanted to hear what he was planning, the interns who agreed to work for free to learn about the campaign trail, and his own for even bothering to do the damn thing in general.

It was petty, stupid, and pointless and annoying to the people he would call/text.

I've done campaign work before, for the BC Liberals and the federal Conservatives. It is exactly like telemarketing and most work is contracted out, under the supervision of a party operative. When you're cold calling people you're there to make sure the people who already support your party remember to vote. Obviously the not-so-inclined aren't going to be convinced by some unsolicited shitter on the phone, and I really mean shitter because anyone who can string sentences together is hired for the job (admittedly the politician you're supporting could fail this simple criteria). The intention is never to convince, at most callers leave website and social media information to truly undecided voters.

I did get paid decently for what's essentially a no-barriers job though, it's interesting to hear in the US they don't pay people to work a job that essentially does nothing to your career progression.

Yeah im not 100% sure if it was just Newsome exploiting these young adults who want to further themselves and their career.
They definitely shouldve either been compensated, or allowed to decline for a different opportunity. Because he basically wasted 6 months, and wasted 6 months of my parents having to support him longer because he was doing this shit for free.
I know my dad was really annoyed lol.
