With the new lottery rules you only have like a 30% chance to keep the 1st OA even if you finish last. That was basically the reasoning for keeping the 4th OA this year (B Tkachuk fell to them which also makes that choice easier). Plus it sends a pretty gross message to the fans and EK if you give the pick up thinking you'll be worse next year. With the loss of Hoffman, Karl and likely Anderson I dont see them getting any better though.

I think the biggest regret for them is trading Bobby Ryan with EK, because as you point out they are giving up a franchise player. They should want to maximize that return and pay to get rid of Ryans deal somewhere else if they need to.

in 2 years they completely destroyed the team
its just insane when you think about the decent amount of top prospects in ottawa
and all the bad decisions they keep doing for the team

we already know that they are going to be worst than they were last year if they trade karlsson
and they already traded their 1st round pick this year with a top prospect and kyle turris for duchesne

We won't trade Ryan along with EK anymore

It's going to be Karlsson only

Per NHL source that #isles are pushing hard for Karlsson: "If this (Karlsson) doesn’t happen it will be completely due to him wanting to play somewhere else. It won’t be being outbid OR not giving enough in trade."

I'm not totally against a Karlsson trade as long as we get good value. Teams should have to fucking pay for the best defenceman in the world. When I hear teams saying certain prospects aren't available it makes me cringe

I think that's onoy because other teams have the leverage, since they know ek won't be Sens 4 lyfe. Why give away gg prospects when they can get him through fa next year. They know Ottawa isn't gonna let him go for nothing. So they are just trying to play hard ball and offer low
