So.... what do. It looks like the sword might be better, even though ias doesn't work with the firebird dot. Also the extra damage to beast might actually be pretty handy in grifts.

Dat ctrl pressage.

Remember that element damage isn't that important, especially when you have a lot of it, because it's additive and not multiplicative. Sheer damage is better, but I don't know if that other weapon is worth it after taking out the fake IAS damage.

I wonder how good that +beast damage secondary effect is. Almost half of all monsters are categorized as beasts, so it could be sneakily helpful.

Nice roll lol.

elemntal damage isnt that important? what? elemental damage is the best stat in the game. get a lot of it. the only way having too much elemental damage would be bad is if you only had elemntal damage.

That's what I mean, you need a balance to maximize output. Having too much of one thing isn't taking advantage of multipliers.

True, but elemental damage has diminishing returns because it's additive, so without doing the math, the 16% on the devastator is more like 10% because I already have 70% or so.

Tough call on the wep, without the Ias the dps would still be 3100ish. Is the white number all the the firebird dot works with? Also it seems like almost 30-40 percent of monsters are beasts, so that 13% would be significant I would think...?

Edit: whelp, looking like its the devastator I guess. Seems like a waste of a nice roll on the sword.

there are no diminishing returns with elemental damage. if you have 70% elemntal damage, your sheet damage will be multiplied by 1.7. if you have any other damage multipliers such as skill damage, you take the number you previously equated and times it by the secondary damage multiplier (skill damage).

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

Original Stats
Weapon damage = 100
+500% Skill damage = 500
+150% Skill damage (from items) = 750
+200% Element damage (from items) = 1,500

Now you can upgrade to a weapon that either gives an additional 15% element damage or an additional 10% base damage:
Element:
750 x 215% Element damage = 1,612.5

Base:
Weapon damage = 110
+500% Skill damage = 550
+150% Skill damage (from items) = 825
+200% Element damage (from items) = 1,650

So although the % you added was lower (10 vs 15), the base damage is more important with these stats. Obviously it depends on your build, you have to do the calculation. I was just pointing out that you should consider these calculations when deciding between which weapon you want to use :D

Diminishing returns was the wrong word, but here's a good look at it, as already spelt out above:

yup yup. going back to his initial question though, for his build at least, ias is useless. and though the total dps may be higher on the sword, its actually inflated based on the much higher ias. the mace would probably be better even if it didnt have the fire skill %.

For the record, the big DPS number on the sword without the IAS (disregarding it in this scenario) would be ~3,111 instead of ~3,297. Still considerably higher than the Devastator, but not sure if it's worth taking off the element damage at that point.
